The Journal has six main sections for articles, and we welcome all members of the OES community to submit articles to populate these sections. We strive to publish every article we receive, however please note that some articles may not appear in the immediate issue. As all articles submitted will fall into one of the sections listed below, we encourage submissions to be targeted for one of these sections. However, if you are unsure what section your article would apply to, we’ll be happy to find a place for it!

The following are the sections in the ESJ open to articles:

The Eastern Star News

News and items of interest from the OES members. What’s happening in your chapter or jurisdiction? Do you have an event that you’d like to share with the community? Share what your jurisdiction is doing, so that others may be able to learn from you!

Cover Feature

The editorial team will chose an article that is submitted as the feature article for that issue. Articles are chosen for this based on theme, timing, and novelty.

Sub Features

A variety of other articles, also featured on the cover, that fall under any category.

Jurisdictional Feature

Segment highlighting a geographical/jurisdictional area of the Eastern Star, giving brief history of OES in the area, their activities, etc. Designed to demonstrate the global aspect of the Eastern Star, and give members more information about their sisters and brothers around the world.

Tribute

Section honoring senior and accomplished members of the Eastern Star.

Symbolic Understanding

Brief segment (single page) giving more information about the origin, meaning, and development of symbols in the Eastern Star. i.e.: Heroines, Star, etc.
